Fender, the famous manufacturer of electric guitars and
amplifiers, is getting into the wireless speaker market with a set of
Bluetooth speakers that are styled after the company’s iconic
amplifiers. Both have adjustable volume, bass, and treble knobs, a blue
LED jewel light and a metal grille-covered front. Furthermore, they are
both equipped with a noise-cancelling microphone, which should make for
clearer phone calls.
The Monterey is the pricier and larger of the two. It boasts two 5.12-inch woofers plus two 1-inch tweeters and packs 120W of power. Consequently, it requires an AC source. Like its smaller sibling, the speaker supports the AAC wireless audio codec and Bluetooth apt-X for higher quality streaming. A 3.5mm auxiliary plus two RCA inputs are also included.
The Newport is less powerful but much more portable, with only 30W channeled through two woofers and one tweeter. It has all the same features as the Monterey except for the RCA inputs, plus a USB port for charging your smartphone. A lithium-ion battery offers 12 hours of music playback, which is more than LG's 'magical' levitating portable speaker can manage.
The Monterey costs $300 and the Newport is $199.99. Both speakers are now available in stores and online at Fender's website.
